Design and Technology

Our D&T curriculum is delivered through well-planned and resourced projects and experiences. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. These are usually linked to our Grange Park Learning Quest topics to give purpose and context to the knowledge, concepts and skills taught. This enables pupils to make meaningful connections with mathematics, science, computing and art as appropriate.

Lessons are sequenced to ensure pupils build and apply a broad range of technical knowledge, understanding and skills in order to make functional prototypes and products with an end user in mind. Pupils generate, develop, model and communicate their ideas through discussion, annotated sketches, exploded diagrams and prototypes. The iterative process of designing and making enables pupils to critique, evaluate and test their ideas and products as well the ideas of others. Through their work with food, pupils are taught to apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet, and prepare and cook a variety of predominantly savoury dishes using a range of techniques.

Our curriculum drivers of growth mindset, community and environment shape every aspect of design and technology, are embedded in teaching and learning and develop the child as a whole. It is our intent to enable pupils to make informed choices and understand the impact of those choices on the wider community and environment.
