Science

Our carefully sequenced curriculum ensures pupils develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. They are taught scientific enquiry that helps them to answer scientific questions about the world around them while developing a sense of excitement and curiosity. Children are encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave and understand the uses and implications of science today and for the future. They become familiar with and use technical terminology accurately and precisely.

Science sessions are carefully planned to connect, wherever possible, to other subjects in the curriculum in order to give purpose and context to what is taught. Pupils also apply their mathematical knowledge to their understanding of science including collecting, presenting and analysing data. Opportunities for outdoor learning enable pupils to apply their science knowledge to the environment around them. Our curriculum drivers of growth mindset, community, environment and language development shape every aspect of Science, are embedded in teaching and learning and develop the child as a whole.
